album #pop punk

three cheers for sweet revenge - my chemical romance

my favorite band of all time. i've been listening to this one since i was a kid and have yet to get tired of it.

album #alt metal

sundowning - sleep token

this album takes me to another plane of exitence. pretty certain that if i listen to give and sugar on loop for long enough i'll start floating away.

album #metalcore

finding god before god finds me - bad omens

the catholic guilt and religious trauma is big on this one (as it usually is, with bad omens) and even thought i have none, i can identify with the anger.

album #metalcore

tsunami sea - spiritbox

brutal and ethereal is how i like to describe spiritbox's music. tsunami sea makes me go through so many emotions.

album #metalcore

sempiternal - bring me the horizon

another album i've been listening for such a long time. i love everything bmth puts out, but this one will always have a special place in my heart.

book #sci-fi

the lathe of heaven - ursula k. leguin

dystopian, but disturbingly prescient and deeply philosophical. took me a couple of chapters to warm up, but once i did i couldn't stop reading.

book #horror

the haunting of hill house - shirley jackson

on the surface, this book seems to be a classic haunted house story - but in reality, it's so much more than that. lots of psychological torment and the best opening paragraph of all time.

movie #gothic horror

crimson peak (2015)

the visuals, the costumes, the photography, the story - everything made me gasp over and over again while watching this.

movie #horror

lake mungo (2008)

uncanny digital expression and exploration of ghosts, memory, fear and what it is to be forgotten and remembered only when it's too late.

movie #fantasy

the lord of the rings trilogy (2001 - 2003)

i watched lord of the rings for the first time in 2025 and it changed my life. it's everything i think about. don't let the long movie hours intimidate you, watch the movies!

movie #fantasy

kiki's delivery service (1989)

it's hard to pick a favorite hayao miyazaki movie, but kiki comes close. something about losing your passion and belief in yourself only to find it sparkling again when you least expect.
